Last night, around 10:30pm, GVPD Officers were dispatched to the report of a stolen vehicle. While Officers were enroute, a Nevada County Sheriff’s Office deputy ran a vehicle license plate and the dispatcher advised it was the vehicle BEING reported stolen to GVPD!

CHP cars were in the area as well and pulled in behind the deputy. A traffic stop was conducted on South Auburn Street at the intersection of Park Ave. The driver pulled over and was taken into custody without incident.

He was identified as Nicholas McCauley of Grass Valley and Penn Valley. While processing the vehicle officers found a loaded .38 caliber handgun with extra ammunition, methamphetamine, paraphernalia, marijuana, burglary tools such as a widow punch and shaved vehicle keys for stealing vehicles.

The suspect is also on formal probation in Nevada County. He is in custody ??

The victim had her car returned and is so thankful. This collaboration between NCSO, CHP, and GVPD led to a successful outcome.
