April 29, 2019 – Wildfire threat – We are all in this together. Volunteer for a shift or two to help your neighborhood become more firesafe!

Thanks to a collaborative effort by The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County, with support from County of Nevada Office of Emergency Services and Waste Management, free residential green waste disposal options will be available to Nevada County residents throughout the month of May. Five neighborhood sites each weekend will be available and for two weekends the Nevada County Fairgrounds add to the capacity by hosting a drop-off location.

The Fire Safe Council is seeking to fill more than one hundred volunteer shifts at the six green waste disposal locations. Volunteer Duties Include: directing traffic, logging information from participants, answering basic questions from the community, screening green waste loads for acceptable materials, track time residents spend developing defensible space around their homes,  and the best part… there is NO PHYSICAL LABOR REQUIRED!

To register to volunteer, click here and select a date, then click the green Register button. You will receive a confirmation email for each shift for which you register, which will include the date, time, and location of your shift.

Please mark your calendar for the mandatory volunteer training: Training class in the Board Chambers on Tuesday, 4/30/2019, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Rood Center, located at 950 Maidu Ave, Nevada City, CA 95959.
