December 1, 2019 – Every December, Nevada County Child Welfare Services works with community service provides and partners to collect and donate Christmas presents for children in foster care. This annual tradition brings joy and happiness to all the foster children through the community’s support and acknowledgement. Each Giving Tree has tags for each child currently in foster care.

The annual Toys for Tots program is another way to give this holiday. The program distributes thousands of toys and bicycles to the children of Nevada County. The Toys for Tots program traditionally servers as a central collection point and will distribute surplus toys to other organizations in the community that may come up short of fulfilling the requests of their sponsored families.

Giving Tree Program: Give Gifts to Foster Children this Holiday!

Nevada County Child Welfare Services has distributed their annual “Christmas Giving Tree” at different locations throughout Nevada County.

Every December, Nevada County Child Welfare Services works with community service provides and partners to collect and donate Christmas present for children in foster care. This annual tradition brings joy and happiness to all the foster children who deserve the communities support and acknowledgement. Each “Christmas Giving Tree” has tags for each child currently in foster care. The tags include the child’s age, gender and some of their current interests or wishes.

Community members are encouraged to simply take a tag, shop for the identified items and return the tag and donations of unwrapped gifts back to the Christmas Giving Tree location or to the Child Welfare Office located at 988 McCourtney Rd Grass Valley, CA 95949 by December 20, 2019. The presents will then be wrapped and distributed to each foster child by Christmas.

Nevada City:

  • Nevada County Superior Court House
  • The Eric Rood Government Center

Grass Valley:

Toys for Tots

Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. The Nevada County Toys for Tots program is run locally by Marine Corps League Detachment 885 and distributes thousands of toys and bicycles to the children of Nevada County.

The Toys for Tots program traditionally serves as a central collection point and will distribute surplus toys to other organization in the community that may come up short of fulfilling the requests of their sponsored families. Unwrapped toys are sorted by gender and age group and then volunteers fill the wish lists as closely as possible. The presents will then be wrapped and distributed to each foster child by Christmas.

Collection boxes are now located at the Rood Center, Brighton Greens, and Crown Point lobbies as well as 75+ locations throughout the community.

If you have any questions about the Toys for Tots program, please contact Thomas Oates at Thomas.Oates@co.nevada.ca.us or (530) 470-2516.
