May 2, 2019 – On May 4, 2019 please join the Greater Alta Sierra Firewise Community and Bear Yuba Land Trust for a public education and volunteer workday!
What: Wildfire Community Preparedness Day is a national campaign that encourages people to come together on a single day to take action to reduce wildfire risk.
Who: This year members of the Greater Alta Sierra Firewise Community (GAS) are partnering with the Bear Yuba Land Trust (BYLT) to host a wildfire safety and public education work day at the Adam Ryan Preserve.
When and where: Saturday May 4, 2019 from 9:00 am to noon at the Adam Ryan Preserve and Alan Thiesen Trail located at the intersection of Dog Bar Road and Alta Sierra Drive, Grass Valley.
How: The goal of the event is to provide resources to support community wildfire preparedness and to volunteer to help protect and enhance this important community space.
Activities will be available for all ages and abilities. Please come help us:
- Weed and tend to the native plant garden (bring your gardening tools)
- Pull, pile and burn Scotch broom (bring your gloves, loppers and wheelbarrow)
- Pull, pile and burn downed dead wood and brush (bring safety glasses and handsaws)
- Perform trail maintenance (bring rakes and a strong back!)
Most importantly, come get valuable information to prepare for the 2019 wildfire season!
