Hospitality House just received a generous donation of approximately 500 pairs of Australian Army boots from Swiss Link, a military surplus supply store located in Paradise, CA. Swiss Link recently put the word out that they were looking to donate gently-used boots and local man, Thom Myers, called immediately to secure them. With hundreds of people currently experiencing homelessness in Nevada County, Myers loaded up his truck and trailer and drove the 73 miles from Grass Valley to Paradise to retrieve all the boots and delivered them to Hospitality House.
“When locals show up at our shelter, they often have very little. In some cases, they are barefoot,” said Ashley Quadros, development director at Hospitality House. “We are grateful for this most generous donation from Swiss Link and to Thom for having the tenacity to make it happen. The boots are already warming up toes and keeping people dryer from the elements.”
Hospitality House staff has been working hard to sort and distribute the boots to people in need, with over 100 given out the first day. Boots have been made available to partner service providers, including but not limited to Spirit Peer Empowerment Center, North San Juan Ridge Family Resource and Sierra Roots. Those in need of footwear are encouraged to contact Hospitality House for help.
