PLACER COUNTY, Calif. June 11, 2018 – Laura Peters, a licensed Civil Engineer who has worked on water resource issues for 26 years, has announced her candidacy for the Division 4 seat on the Board of the Nevada Irrigation District (NID). A resident of Thermalands, near Lincoln, she and her husband are NID customers and have been members of the Placer County Farm Bureau for over 20 years. Division 4 lies entirely within rural Placer County, including parts of North Auburn and Lincoln.
Laura holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from UC Davis and is currently managing the engineering aspects of the Salton Sea Management Program for the State Department of Water Resources.
In announcing her intention to run, she stated, “I want to serve my community on the NID Board, so that our water district can benefit from my experience gained over a long career. I am committed to enhancing our water resources and strengthening NID, while enriching our watershed for the benefit of all. I look forward to representing Division 4.
“NID is facing major challenges in the development of a long-term reliable water supply, while maintaining the existing system. These challenges include watershed protection, fiscal responsibility, collaborating with neighboring districts and the public, and planning to meet future needs.
Taxpayers and NID customers must evaluate the risks NID is taking and how the Board manages its financial health. ‘Doing things the way we have always done them’ may not meet future goals.”
