September 13, 2018 – The Nevada County Superior Courts, local Law Enforcement, and the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools (NCSOS) are pleased to sponsor LAW DAY 2018 on Friday, Sept. 14th.

Law Day is an annual field trip opportunity for 5th grade students to better understand what happens in court and learn about the role of law enforcement. 650 students  will be able to tour the building while observing informative presentations by key stakeholders (e.g., judges, attorneys, bailiffs, representatives from law enforcement).

Students will visit three stations, which include the following:

  • How the Courts Work: introduction to what takes place in each courtroom, the roles of the Judge, District Attorney and Public Defender, and the differences between the Criminal, Family and Juvenile Courts.
  • The Role of Law Enforcement in the Justice System: to include an overview of basic constitutional rights, such as privacy rights and rights of search and seizure.
  • A tour of the old county jail facility area, led by a Sheriff’s deputy, including a presentation from representatives of the Juvenile Drug Court, followed by a question and answer session.
