NEVADA CITY, Calif. May 25, 2018 – Lightning activity focused on the central and northern Sierra Nevada yesterday as 1,838 strikes were recorded throughout California.

947 strikes on National Forest lands, with 209 recorded on the Tahoe National Forest:

– American River District: 6 strikes
– Sierraville District: 108 strikes
– Truckee District: 94 strikes
– Yuba River District: 1 strike

The first strike was recorded at 3:01 pm, the last strike occurred at 4:48 am this morning.

The weather forecast for Memorial Day weekend calls for more thunderstorms throughout today and Saturday.

Heading into the Sunday and upper level ridging builds and temperatures will begin to warm back to above normal levels.

For Memorial Day, dry and very summer-like weather is expected, with Valley and Delta highs in the 90s.
