In 2016 Republicans regained control of the Presidency, the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Supreme Court. In an attempt to regain seats, Democratic challengers have been declaring their candidacies to run against incumbent Republican Congressional representatives in the 2018 mid-term-elections.
On July 6th local residents will have an opportunity to meet and compare five Democratic Congressional candidates running against Republican Tom McClintock and two Democratic candidates running against Republican Doug LaMalfa at 7 p.m. at the General Gomez Arts & Events Center, 808 Lincoln Way, Auburn. This event is free, open to the public and is sponsored by the Auburn Area Democratic Club.
Regina Bateson, Roza Calderon, Michael Green, Jessica Morse and Rochelle Wilcox, all Democrats running against McClintock, will answer questions posed by local citizens, as will Democratic candidates Dennis Duncan and Jessica Holcombe, who are running against LaMalfa. At the refreshment break of this event, citizens can meet the candidates face-to-face and ask their own questions. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and hear these candidates and their viewpoints on issues facing voters from the CD4 and CD1 districts.
The Auburn area is split by the boundary between Congressional District 4 (CD4: McClintock) and Congressional District 1 (CD1: LaMalfa) – which are two huge geographic rural regions established in 2011 by California redistricting. CD4 includes the City of Auburn, Newcastle, Penryn, Rocklin, Roseville and Granite Bay and runs down the Sierras to Yosemite. CD1 includes the North Auburn area, Meadow Vista, Colfax, Weimar, Applegate, Christian Valley, Grass Valley and Nevada City and runs to the Oregon and Nevada borders and over to Redding.
The Auburn Area Democratic Club (AADC) is dedicated to educating eligible voters in our service area and motivating them to go to the polls and vote on Election Day. AADC holds open public “Topics of Community Interest” speaking events on the 1st Thursday evening of each month. AADC membership includes citizens from the greater Auburn area, Meadow Vista, Colfax, Applegate, Christian Valley, Weimar and Newcastle.
