September 13, 2018 – The Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Board of Directors approved contracts to install a new trash rack at Combie Dam and begin work to grade a portion of the abandoned Newtown canal during its Sept. 12 meeting. Present were President William Morebeck and Directors Nancy Weber, John Drew, Nick Wilcox and Scott Miller.

The Board unanimously approved a $111,354 contract with NMI Industrial, based in Sacramento, to install a new trash rack for the Combie South Powerhouse. The rack is mounted to the face of Combie Dam over the intake to the south powerhouse penstock to protect hydroelectric operations. Read about the installation here.

Also, the Board awarded a $234,782 construction contract to Hansen Bros. Enterprises for the Newtown Canal Grading Project. Work will begin to grade a portion of the abandoned Newtown canal for stormwater. The regrading of the canal was a mitigation measure in the California Environmental Quality Act document for this project. Read about the project here.

The General Manager reported District water storage is 200,825 acre-feet, which is 74 percent of storage capacity and 108 percent of average for the year. Also, the community is invited to attend NID’s first Watershed Open House on the evening of Oct. 17 at the Gold Miners Inn in Grass Valley.

The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors will be held at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018 at the NID Business Center located at 1036 West Main Street, Grass Valley. NID Board meetings are open to the public.
