May 9, 2019 at 12:00 PM Before and After the #ReadyNevadaCounty booklet was read and acted upon ?
WELCOME TO YOUR READY, SET, GO! HANDBOOK created by the County of Nevada in collaboration with partner agencies and emergency managers to help your household prepare for the possibility of wildfire. Fire is a natural aspect of our Mediterranean environment. Climate change, tree mortality, and a legacy of fire suppression have resulted in unprecedented levels of fuel. It is not a question of if, but when the next major wildfire will occur. The majority of Nevada County lives in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI). As much as 92% of our community is located within High and Very-High Fire Hazard Severity Zones. We are in a new era that requires a heightened level of personal responsibility.

This system will increase northerly winds over the northern Sacramento Valley with gusts nearing 30-40 mph at times between 11 AM and 9 PM today. Outside of some scattered mountain showers, the weekend should be warm and dry across the region. Turning to next week, a pattern change is anticipated which would cool temperatures off and bring chances of precipitation back to NorCal
