However, another breezy day is in store Monday, New Years Eve day, that may make for some unpleasant conditions if folks are not prepared. Even though the temperatures will be around 30 degrees, with winds gusting to 40-50 mph, the wind chill will make it feel like it’s in the single digits and teens. December 14, 2018 at 7:20 AM A weak weather system will be making its way through northern California today and tonight. Precipitation amounts are expected to be light so snow impacts over the Sierra should be minimal. Slippery conditions will be likely, however, this evening and tonight as well as visibility reductions due to blowing snow.

A bigger Pacific storm is forecast to move through Northern California late Sunday into Monday. This storm is expected to drop enough snowfall on the Sierra Cascade passes to create significant travel impacts. Snowfall amounts of 8-12 inches are expected over the major Sierra passes between late Sunday evening and Monday evening. The highest locations could see over 2 feet of snow during this time period. Snow levels are expected to vary from 5500 to 6500 feet so the passes on interstate 80 and highway 50going to or from the Tahoe area are likely to be impacted.

The heaviest snowfall is expected late Sunday night and early Monday but snow is likely to begin earlier and the forecast timing could change.

Be sure and check the latest weather and road reports if planning travel into the Sierra late this weekend and early next week. Be prepared with winter like conditions. Carry tire chains and supplies and expect delays.

December 13, 2018 at 12:35 PM Nevada County Sheriff’s Office: Nevada County’s Eric Rood Administration Center received a bomb threat in the 11 o’clock hour. Many organizations and agencies in the region as well as across the Country have received similar threats.

The Eric Rood Administration Center was evacuated and an investigative sweep was conducted. No explosive devices were found and the building has been cleared for reentry. All services have resumed normal service.

December 13, 2018 at 12:29 PM Grass Valley Police: On today’s date at about 1120 hours several businesses within Nevada County received bomb threats via email. The email stated that the businesses must pay money by way of Bitcoin or the bombs would detonate. The Grass Valley Police Department along with other local law enforcement agencies take these threats seriously. We were able to confirm that the threats are a hoax similar to other numerous emailed bomb threats occurring across the country. Should you receive an email similar to this please notify the Nevada County Dispatch Center at (530) 265-7880.

December 13, 2018 at 12:18 PM A bomb threat called in to the Nevada County Rood Center resulted in an evacuation of the premises. The report turned out to be a hoax. NID received a similar call, also considered a hoax. Grass Valley PD investigated this threat and have determined it to be a hoax.  Reports of other agencies receiving the same threat are emerging.

The next 7 days will have a mix of weather with a few Pacific weather systems bringing precipitation. The first relatively weak system will move through Friday afternoon and night bringing light rain and mountain snow with minimal impacts. Sunday/Monday will see a stronger system pass through NorCal. Valley rain will be moderate but Sierra snow at pass levels will likely be enough to cause travel issues. Another weak system will pass through NorCal Tuesday but is likely to cause only minimal weather issues.

This weekend will see a mixture of weather with dry conditions to start and precip spreading over the region late in the weekend. Saturday will be the better day for outdoor activities as it should be mainly dry. A weak Pacific storm system is forecast to move into NorCal Sunday bringing rain and mountain snow to the northern half of the region during the day with light precipitation spreading southward in the evening.

Hawk is dark brown and cinnamon colored, nearly the size of a Red-tailed Hawk. These hawks are commonly found in the Southwest, so it will look very unusual in our area. December 3, 2018 at 8:00 AM Yuba River Ranger District is planning to conduct prescribed pile burning along Moonshine Road, Bullards Bar Work Center (Vista Point), and along Marysville Road (Rebel Ridge Trailhead). Smoke will be visible from Bullards Bar Reservoir, Marysville Road, and Highway 49. Fire personnel and apparatus will be on-scene. Please drive with extra caution when traveling through this area.

Less than half an inch of precipitation is expected, with snow totals from 2 to 6 inches. Looking ahead, there is the potential for a stronger storm early next week so stay tuned to the forecast.

Mountain travel difficulties likely through the evening hours. Dry Sunday and Monday with morning valley fog. Next chance of precipitation next Tuesday.

December 1, 2018 at 9:16 AM A cold storm system with low snow levels will continue impacting the area through the early evening. This system will bring mountain travel impacts to the Sierra, snow levels will be as low as 3000 feet. The time for the greatest travel impact will be from 9 am to 12 pm. Another extended period of wet weather is likely beginning Monday night and lasting through the week, at this time precipitation amounts do not look to be heavy. Rainfall amounts are not forecast to be heavy enough to cause flood concerns for burn areas at this time.
