PLACER COUNTY June 14, 2019 – Caltrans is alerting eastbound and westbound motorists to overnight grinding and paving work on Interstate 80 from Sierra College Boulevard in Rocklin to the Rock Springs Undercrossing in Penryn. Travels delays should be anticipated while work is ongoing.
Work on this 4.4 mile segment of I-80 will include a cold plane and Rubberized Hot-Mix Asphalt (RHMA) overlay. This material enhances the durability of California’s highways, especially in highly traveled areas, and delivers a smoother ride for motorists.
Overnight, intermittent lane closures are anticipated during the following periods through August 2019:
I-80 Westbound
- 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights (Monday through Thursday)
- 8 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday
- 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekend nights
I-80 Eastbound
- 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. weeknights (Monday through Thursday)
- 9 p. m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday
- No Saturday evening closures
- 10 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday
Additional upgrades to I-80 include shoulder rumble strips and 6-inch thermoplastic striping for better visibility and motorist awareness during poor weather conditions. Caltrans is also upgrading electical facilities at seven locations along I-80. Automatic Vehicle Classification Systems deliver real-time traffic information to assist Caltrans in providing travel times for motorists and developing future projects that keep Californians moving.
The $6.64 million project was awarded to Teichert Construction. Completion of construction work is anticipated in August 2019. Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work.
