NEVADA CITY, Calif. April 20, 2017 – On May 15, join YubaNet.com, local elected officials and staff for a town hall meeting focused on making the most out of your participation in public meetings.
A bewildering alphabet soup, government speak and obscure rules to outsiders can make participating in meetings a daunting task.
During the two-hour forum, we will share where to find information about your local government agencies, how to contact your elected officials, unravel the mysteries of public comment rules, talk about California’s open meeting law (Brown Act) and what to do when more information is needed.
We’ll go over the basics of public comment, share pro tips on making a point on an issue and some very practical advice on attending meeting.
Nevada County Supervisor Heidi Hall, Grass Valley City Councilmember Lisa Swarthout, Nevada City Councilmember Reinette Senum and LAFCo Attorney P. Scott Browne will answer questions from the public. Other panelists will be announced as their attendance is confirmed.
We’ll provide an overview of public participation opportunities in your local government. Lists of available positions on commissions and advisory groups for various public agencies will be available, an a list of open seats in the 2018 election will be provided.
Be informed, be engaged.
