NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. May 6, 2019 – The first weekend of the Free Residential Green Waste kicked off Saturday, May 4th and was a smashing success. The program was so popular all disposal containers filled at six locations by midday on Saturday. The Nevada County Fairgrounds, Gate 8, was the only location open on Sunday, May 5th due to capacity issues.

Plans are in place to scale up capacity at each site for the following weekends in May.  This program is largely run by volunteers and coordinated by the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County in collaboration with the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services and Waste Management.

If you would like to volunteer to make this program possible, please register online. The next volunteer training is on Thursday, May 9th in the Board Chambers of the Rood Center, 950 Maidu Ave!
