Warm and uneventful weather through the rest of the week

November 5, 2019 – Dry and mild weather weather pattern continues through the week. Generally light winds are expected for at least the next week.

Discussion

Other than a few high clouds cresting the offshore ridge, skies remain clear across the region early this morning. Winds remain generally light other than some locally gusty northeast/east winds of 15-30 mph across the ridges of the northern Sierra Nevada. Current temperatures range from the mid 20s in the colder mountain valleys to the mid 50s to lower 60s across the foothill and mountain thermal belts. Readings are in the 40s through the Central Valley under a strong radiative inversion.

The first is the ongoing Ranch Fire over western Tehama County while the second is a new start named the Eagle Fire and is located along the border of Lake and Colusa Counties to the west of Williams.

Very little change in the overall weather pattern is expected through the end of the week as the Rex Block evolves along the West Coast. High temperatures will continue to be well above average and overnight lows will be chilly on valley floors beneath a strong surface inversion while foothill and mountain ridges will remain mild at night.

Extended Discussion (Saturday through Tuesday)

Warm, dry conditions to persist during the weekend into much of next week given the semi-permanent ridge over the region. The global pattern continues to favor an omega block setup with a broad positive height anomaly fixed over the West Coast. While heights are somewhat lower next week, broad ridging shows little sign of leaving the picture. The persistent pattern supports warm days ahead with high temperatures around 10 to 15 degrees above average accompanied by cool mornings. Looking out to next weekend, possibly even further, the Climate Prediction Center maintains this warm, dry pattern into mid-November.
