Upper troughing moving through Interior NorCal this morning. Satellite imagery showing some high clouds associated with the short wave. Upper ridging progged to begin building inland behind vort max this afternoon. This will result in some synoptic warming today with max temperatures near to slightly below normal. AMS continues to warm this weekend with high temps climbing to above normal.
Some locally breezy conditions possible in the Delta afternoons into evenings, but marine layer remains fairly shallow, limiting cooling effect inland. Surface pressure gradient supports some northerly wind over northern portions of the forecast area this weekend. Speeds however do not look that strong given lack of upper level support.
Some triple digit is possible in the Northern Sacramento Valley Sunday. Cooling trend begins Monday and will continue through next week as long wave trough retrogrades off the West Coast and onshore flow increases.
Extended Discussion (Tuesday through Friday)
Dry conditions are expected through the extended period under stable southwest flow aloft. A series of shortwave weather systems moving through the Pacific Northwest will keep the southwest U.S. upper ridge suppressed. This will keep daytime temperatures near to slightly below normal. Generally onshore winds are expected afternoons and evenings but strong winds are not expected.
