Nevada City, CA – August 14, 2024 – The Onyx Downtown at the Nevada Theatre and the Nevada County Democrats Central Committee, are pleased to announce a special screening of the iconic film Erin Brockovich on August 28th, 2024. Doors will open at 6:30 pm with the screening beginning at 7:00 pm.
Released in 2000 and directed by Steven Soderbergh, Erin Brockovich is based on a true story that follows Erin Brockovich, portrayed by Julia Roberts, a determined legal assistant who takes on PG&E and accuses them of contaminating the water supply of a California town. With her unyielding tenacity and ability to uncover crucial evidence, Brockovich stands as an inspiring example of courage and advocacy in the face of corporate negligence.

The screening is co-presented by the Onyx Theatre and Nevada County Democrats, reflecting a commitment to community engagement and civic responsibility. The Nevada County Democrats have been active supporters of environmental causes and community health initiatives, echoing the themes explored in Erin Brockovich.
In addition to the screening, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from a local elected official (TBA) in a brief curtain talk before the film. This will further illuminate the film’s themes of community activism and environmental justice.
