Blue Heron

Launched in 1999 (in the era of dial-up!) to put the then-revolutionary power of the Internet into the hands of our foothill and mountain communities, YubaNet.com delivers daily news to the Sierra, from the Sierra.

We post news and information gathered from all over the “Range of Light” – north and south, east and west – plus California, national and world news.

Our newsroom overlooks the South Yuba River just outside historic Nevada City, California, hence our name.

Of course, YubaNet.com covers local news for our hometown readers here in Nevada City, Grass Valley, and Truckee – the three municipalities in Nevada County, California.

In addition to our original reporting and curated news stories from a myriad of online resources, we invite you to contribute your stories. Contributors from all corners of the Sierra – including businesses, non-profits, government agencies, universities, community groups, artists, musicians and others – submit their news, events and commentary.

News releases and op-eds from your organization or business are welcome. Please read our editorial policy before submitting. If you are interested in our values statement, you can read it here.

During the wildfire season, YubaNet.com tracks larger incidents in the Sierra, throughout California and nationally on our Fire News page. We pride ourselves on providing accurate and real-time coverage on incidents.

YubaNet was founded and is operated by publisher Susan Levitz and editor Pascale Fusshoeller.
