The Onyx Theatre is always on the lookout for new ways to entertain with cinema. The Onyx Theatre added Sunday 7 pm screenings as the Onyx Downtown at the Nevada Theatre. This summer, they added a series of film favorites, Onyx After Hours, which screen every other Friday at 10 pm. For September, the Onyx Theatre has begun yet another way to bring favorite films to the big screen with its first-ever Sunrise Cinema series. All movies will be shown bi-weekly on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM at the Onyx Theatre on Argall Way in Nevada City. Tickets are $10. Note: The Onyx on Argall Way is a 21+ theatre.

Wednesday, Sept. 4th, 9:30 AM: KEY LARGO – Join us as we screen this Bogey & Bacall classic for our very first Sunrise Cinema! This classic film noir by John Huston stars Humphrey Bogart as World War II vet Frank McCloud. Visiting Key Largo to pay his respects to the family of his late war buddy, McCloud attempts to comfort his comrade’s widow, Nora (Lauren Bacall), and father, James Temple (Lionel Barrymore), who operate a hotel. But McCloud realizes that mobsters, led by the infamous Johnny Rocco (Edward G. Robinson), are staying in the hotel. When the criminals take over the establishment, conflict is inevitable.
Wednesday, Sept. 18th, 9:30 AM -STAGECOACH – The film that marked the beginning of the prolific John Wayne-John Ford tandem, this landmark Western revolves around an assorted group of colorful passengers aboard the Overland stagecoach bound for Lordsburg, New Mexico, in the 1880s. An alcoholic philosophizer (Thomas Mitchell), a lady of ill repute (Claire Trevor) and a timid liquor salesman (Donald Meek) are among the motley crew of travelers who must contend with an escaped outlaw, the Ringo Kid (Wayne), and the ever-present threat of an Apache attack as they make their way across the Wild West.
October brings THE THIN MAN (10/2), TO BE OR NOT TO BE (10/16), and the original GODZILLA (10/30) to our Sunrise Cinema offerings.
