Nevada City, CA – The County of Nevada, the City of Nevada City, and the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce are excited to welcome trick-or-treaters to the 3rd annual Nevada City Halloween Spooktacular and Spooky Boooky Book Giveaway on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 3-5 p.m. This free, fun, and family-friendly event is a great way to get your evening festivities started.

Nevada County Connects will run the shuttle between the Government Center, Madelyn Helling Library, and City Hall every 15 minutes until 7 p.m. Opting to walk downtown? You can leave your vehicle at the Government Center and take the pawsitive paved path, sponsored by Sammie’s Friends, to the E. Broad St. stoplight.

A different world waits behind every door in the Government Center, as each department has a unique theme on display. The annual event is a gift to the community from County staff and community partners who have donated their time, candy, and decorations to transform the building into its spooky finest. Special thanks to Sierra Harvest, The Center for the Arts, Bright Futures for Youth, and our Youth Commission for decorating the halls and handing out candy.

“Halloween is a wonderful event that brings our community together, offering a fun and engaging way to connect with County staff,” said Nevada County CEO Alison Lehman.

The fun doesn’t stop there; Madelyn Helling Library, in partnership with the Community Support Network of Nevada County, hosts the 5th annual Spooky Boooky Book Giveaway with face painting, games, storytimes, and the event raffle. Also on site will be Sly Dog Hot Dogs & Fire Goddess Pizza food trucks, a firetruck, a dump truck and a police vehicle! Each year for Spooky Boooky, community partners come together to bring awareness to the importance of reading and how access to books and home libraries increases a child’s literacy skills.
