Tumble Album Release Concert in Nevada City on Oct. 26

Tumble, the acclaimed Northern California-based trio, is set to launch their new album, “Dragonfly,” with a live performance at the historic Nevada Theatre on Saturday, October 26 at 7:30pm. The event promises to be an unforgettable evening of chamber jazz fusion, as Tumble showcases their unique blend of African mbira, electric guitar, clarinets, and saxophone.

The trio, consisting of Robert Heirendt on the mbira, Sean Kerrigan on electric guitar, and Randy McKean on saxophone, has captivated audiences since their formation in 2014. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of musical influences, including Oregon, Codona, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Tumble’s sound is both intricate and hypnotic, combining driving guitar riffs with edgy single reed melodies to create a transcendent musical experience.

Joining Tumble on stage as a special guest for the album release show is the talented Murray Campbell (Beaucoup Chapeaux), who will be adding his touch on the violin and oboes. Additionally, Mei Lin Heirendt (Broken Compass), violinist and daughter of Robert Heirendt, will also be making a special appearance during the performance.

Recorded at Nevada City’s Ancient Wave Studios under the guidance of renowned engineer Oz Fritz, “Dragonfly” captures Tumble’s innovative approach to jazz, blending elements of free jazz with traditional African rhythms. The album features a diverse range of compositions, including guitarist Sean Kerrigan’s dynamic micro-suite “Surrounded by Dragonflies” and saxophonist Randy McKean’s evocative piece “Flow and Eddy.”

The heart of the album, however, lies in Robert Heirendt’s poignant composition “Bloodthirsty Wiles,” inspired by the mystical poetry of Rumi. With duets between Mei Lin Heirendt, Murray Campbell, and Randy McKean on the oboe-like cor anglais, this track showcases the emotional depth and musical virtuosity that define Tumble’s sound.
