Ryan Gruver on Giving Tuesday

Holidays are upon us and no doubt the festive atmosphere has carried you into the spirit of the giving season. Ultimately, the spirit of giving is tied to a sense of shared humanity and contributing to the world in a way that makes it a better, more compassionate place.

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this year on December 3. It encourages people and organizations to donate their time and money to charitable causes as a way to counterbalance the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

One of the most popular ways to participate is through financial contributions to a local nonprofit whose mission aligns with your passion. Our community is rich with nonprofit organizations that drive positive change and enhance our lives every day with services that help people to connect, grow and thrive. These organizations are threads in the fabric that make Nevada County so special.

We are a community that takes ownership of making this a better place to live, work and thrive. As both the Director of Nevada Countyโ€™s Health and Human Services Agency, and a Board Member of the Center for Non-Profit Leadership, I see this firsthand. The work we do at the county, whether itโ€™s providing mental health treatment or reducing wildfire danger, is only possible because of the strength of our non-profit sector.

Your contribution is an investment that supports the collective efforts of people coming together to solve problems and make a meaningful impact in society, often where other sectors cannot or will not.

Get in the giving spirit this Giving Tuesday to help local nonprofits thrive and encourage others around you to join you in actively contributing to positive change in the world.
