On Monday, December 9, Placer County Resource Conservation District (Placer RCD, District) and Placer County Office of Emergency Services (Placer County OES) supported the Coyote Hill Firewise Community in Meadow Vista with fuels reduction to improve ingress/egress routes and community wildfire resilience. Placer RCD provided the Firewise Trailer containing tools such as loppers and weed wrenches, and Placer County OES offered a 20-yard green waste bin. In addition, Placer County Probation continued their partnership with Placer County Chipper Program to process the material.

In total, 10 members of the Coyote Hill Firewise Community used pole saws to prune conifers, remove dead material from the residual oaks, and removed small understory trees which serve as ladder fuels. Material was placed on the roadside and broadcast chipped by the Placer County Chipper Program. In addition, members pulled invasive scotch broom and disposed of it in the green waste bin, careful not to spread the noxious weed.

โThe contributions of our Firewise Communities are truly invaluable. These individuals are actively engaged within our communities, working diligently to make a positive impact. Through the commitment of Placer County residents, the Placer Resource Conservation District, and local government, we collectively work to mitigate risk and enhance resilience,โ stated Jaqui Manning, of Placer County OES.
