January 16, 2025 at 6:52 AM
Weather conditions return to seasonally normal, and fire is expected to remain within the current perimeter with no additional growth anticipated. With the returning Santa Ana winds Monday, widespread critical fire weather conditions remain present. Crews continue to establish and improve the fire line, seek out and extinguish hot spots and construct containment lines to limit further structural damage within the areas still at risk. Supporting search and rescue efforts where needed.

The ongoing search and recovery mission continues to limit utility agencies’ ability to repair infrastructure, delaying the repopulation process, and an increased need for specialized supplies related to all-hazards response for responders and repopulating civilians, including masks, respirators, gloves, eye protection and decontamination, is present.
January 15, 2025 at 7:35 PM
For tonight, the RED FLAG WARNING will conclude at 6:00PM. Monday through Thursday, a chance of strong Santa Ana winds is expected to return, and critical fire weather will be observed. Firefighters continue to aggressively engage in fire suppression. Building and strengthening containment lines while providing for operational and personnel safety. There will be an increased need for specialized supplies related to all-hazards response for responders and repopulating civilians, such as masks, respirators, gloves, eye protection and decontamination.
January 15, 2025 at 7:00 AM
Today, the Santa Ana winds are expected to diminish but humidity will remain at low levels, therefore, the RED FLAG WARNING will remain in effect till 6:00PM this evening. Firefighters continue to aggressively engage in fire suppression. Building and strengthening containment lines while providing for operational and personnel safety. Additionally, there are over 2,000 CAL Guard members involved in the firefight.
Aerial imagery overlays show approximately 5,000 structures may have been damaged or destroyed. The number of structures damaged and destroyed listed at the bottom of the page are verified by damage assessment teams and will be updated with validated information as it becomes available.
North to northeast winds, gusting 20-40 MPH this morning, will gradually diminish in the afternoon and evening hours. At lower elevations, there will be some weak southerly/upcanyon winds developing in the afternoon. So, watch out for sudden changes in wind direction. Relative humidity will still be low with minimums in the teens and limited recovery tonight. Given the low humidity, very dry vegetation and the northeasterly winds, the RED FLAG WARNING will remain in effect until 600 PM this evening.
For Thursday, weak diurnal winds are expected with some higher relative humidity. For Friday through Sunday, a typical onshore flow pattern is expected with southerly/upcanyon winds in the afternoon and evening hours along with higher humidity and cooler temperatures.
However, beginning Monday and continuing through most of next week, a long duration of offshore flow is expected across the area. At this time, the timing of the period of strongest winds is still a very low confidence forecast. However, at this time, late Monday night and Tuesday look to be the strongest winds with moderate Santa Ana winds likely (with a chance of a strong Santa Ana event). Confidence in the exact details of the offshore flow next week is still low and the expected conditions could change.
January 14, 2025 at 8:00 PM
Fire behavior was moderate today but potential for significant fire growth still exists. Firefighters continue to aggressively engage in fire suppression while providing for operational and personnel safety. Additionally, there are over 2,000 CAL Guard members involved in the firefight.
Today, winds gusting 30-40MPH were observed, and humidity dropped to the 12-20% range. The RED FLAG WARNING will remain in effect through 6:00PM, Wednesday.
January 14, 2025 at 6:49 AM
Overnight and this morning, low humidity and strong, gusty Santa Ana winds were observed with peak speeds around 50MPH. The RED FLAG WARNING will remain in effect and widespread critical fire weather is expected through Wednesday evening. Firefighters continue aggressive suppression while demonstrating operational and personnel safety.

January 13, 2025 at 7:12 PM
For today, north to northeast winds, gusting between 25 and 45 MPH were observed across the incident. With the gusty winds and low humidity, critical fire weather conditions remain, and the RED FLAG WARNING will continue through 6:00PM Wednesday evening. For tonight, expect the Santa Ana winds to increase, with gusts between 35 and 55 MPH. Firefighters continue aggressive suppression while demonstrating operational and personnel safety.
January 13, 2025 at 7:00 AM
Through the operational period, critical fire weather conditions can be expected with gusty north to northeast winds and low relative humidity. The gusty winds this morning will diminish a bit this afternoon, but will become stronger late tonight. The strongest wind gusts can be expected across the western half of the fire, basically Branch VII. Therefore, a RED FLAG WARNING is in effect.

From Tuesday through Wednesday, moderate to strong north to northeast winds will continue across the area. The strongest winds are likely on Tuesday morning with gusts in excess of 60 MPH possible in the windier spots, especially across Branch VII. With relative humidity remaining low, widespread critical fire weather conditions will continue and the RED FLAG WARNING will remain in effect until 600 PM Wednesday.
For Thursday through the weekend, cooler conditions, higher humidity and onshore winds are expected.
Fire Behavior:
Fuels are critically dry. Absence of normal precipitation this winter has prevented new green up of herbaceous fuels. Very low fuel moistures have left all fuels highly receptive to burning. New fire starts will grow quickly and require significant resources to control in initial attack.
Smoldering fire throughout the fire perimeter will provide ample ignition sources for strong winds to loft embers across control lines. Unburned islands, dirty burns, and areas of decaying retardant line will allow creeping fire in understory to stand up, becoming active running fire in favorable terrain. Burnt structures may have deep seated heat that smolders without visible detection. Heavy building debris will consume slowly and may suddenly flare up.
SPECIFIC:
Branch I: North winds are in alignment with the major canyon drainages of DIV A. Fire will want to move actively down slope and down canyon. Watch for eddy winds near ridgetops as lower slopes are affected by diurnal heating. These winds could cause erratic fire behavior and may carry fire across control lines. Branch V: Ignition sources remain and have the potential to impact unburned burned areas of DIV M & J. Branch VII: Dirty burns and heavy fuels in steep terrain. N-NE winds will be strongest in this Branch. Smoldering heat creates potential for flare ups in wind and terrain alignment in this area. Watch for rollout in steep terrain causing slope reversals.
Branch X: Heavy brush with little recent fire history. The Garapito Creek drainage will channel NE winds challenging control lines. Expect accelerated down slope runs and long-range spotting if the fire become active in DIVV & Y.
January 12, 2025 at 7:06 PM
Moderate fire behavior with uphill runs, backing and creeping. Red Flag Warning in effect through 6pm Wednesday. Fire behavior was moderate today but there is still active fire within the fire perimeter. Unburned islands are still present and can pose a threat to containment lines, however firefighters have been working around the clock with a continued focus on fire suppression, human safety and private and public property assessment and protection.
For tonight, gusty Santa Ana winds will continue with low humidity with the strongest winds occurring Tuesday morning. A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect and will remain in effect till 6:00PM Wednesday.
January 12, 2025 at 7:26 AM
Control objectives:
Keep the fire North of the Pacific Ocean
Keep the fire South of US 101
Keep the fire East of Malibu Canyon
Keep the fire West of the Interstate 405

Through the operational period, critical fire weather conditions can be expected with gusty north to northeast winds and low relative humidity. The worst conditions are expected through this afternoon during the period of strongest winds and lowest humidity. However, elevated to critical fire weather conditions will continue tonight into Monday morning. Therefore, a RED FLAG WARNING is in effect.
From Monday afternoon through Wednesday, critical fire weather conditions are expected to continue as Santa Ana winds increase. The strongest winds are expected late Monday night and Tuesday with strong Santa Ana winds forecast. Relative humidity will remain low each day with little, if any, overnight recovery. This combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and dry fuels will bring an extended period of critical fire weather conditions and the RED FLAG WARNING will remain in effect until 600 PM Wednesday.

Control Objectives
Keep the fire North of Pacific Ocean
Keep the fire South of Mulholland Drive
Keep the fire East of Malibu Canyon
Keep the fire West of the Interstate 405
Widespread critical fire weather conditions will continue through the operational period. At the ridges and upper slopes, northeast winds will diminish through the afternoon, but wilt increase this evening and into early Friday morning. At lower elevations, expect some chaotic winds this afternoon as weakening offshore winds battle a weak onshore breeze, but the north to northeast winds will begin to increase this evening and into-early Friday morning. Relative humidity wilt bottom out in the teens with poor overnight recovery. For Friday and Saturday, weak diurnal winds are expected with some slight moderation of relative humidity. On Sunday and continuing into the middle of next week, a persistent offshore flow will return to the area. So, an extended period of weak to moderate Santa Ana wmds can be expected Sunday through Wednesday with a 30% chance of strong Santa Ana winds Monday night and Tuesday. These conditions, if they develop, would bring another round of critical fire weather conditions to the area.
Forecasted fire behavior: Fire will continue to spread laterally especially in areas where wind and topography are in alignment. Potential for slope reversals exists as fire transitions aspects. Pay particular attention as fires at the bottom of drainages sheltered from the wind can make uphill runs. Expect moderate to extreme fire behavior as critical rates of spread are forecasted.
