A collaborative of Nevada County’s sterling professional musicians will be offering an exceptional concert to show our fellow Californians devastated by the ferocious LA fires that the people in western Nevada County want to help in their time of terrible need.
At 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, Peace Lutheran Church will host a LA Fire Benefit Concert with performances of a variety of entertaining music.
“One of our important missions at Peace Lutheran is to help those in need,” said Walt Strony, Peace organist and artistic advisor for Arts@Peace – the group sponsoring the concert. “Using my gifts and talent for good has always been of importance to me. Since my arrival at Peace, we have held numerous benefit concerts and silent movie events to raise funds for disasters around the world. This time the disaster is close to home – the ravaged LA area. With the prior events, we have found that our caring community was looking for a way to help, and help they did! Musicians donated their talents, and the public supported it in a big way – both by their attendance and their contributions. We are hoping to repeat that success for Los Angeles.”
“We like to include lots of variety in our concerts, and this event will be no exception,” said Strony. Performances will include those by the Grass Valley Male Voice Choir, George Husaruk director; Heather MacAdam, vocalist/guitarist; Sierra Chamber Players, strings and piano; Greg Young, classical pianist; Anne Vaaler, music director for Peace with others providing a variety of music; Thom Greathouse, music director for Emmanuel Episocpal and vocalist/pianist with a cabaret style; and of course, Walt Strony, on organ.
Admission will be by donation; no gift is too small to make a difference. All donations will be sent to Lutheran Disaster Response already working tirelessly in the area. Checks may be made out to Peace Lutheran Church – Memo: LA Fires. You may also donate at the Church Website shown below (“Donate Options” – “Give to Lutheran World Relief” – Memo “LA Fires.” Call the office for assistance. Lutheran Disaster Response is part of Lutheran World Relief and is funded entirely through the Lutheran Church; none of the money collected will be used for administrative costs.
A wine-and-cheese reception will follow the concert, when the audience can meet the musicians.
Peace Lutheran Church is located at 828 W. Main St., near downtown Grass Valley.
