Lúnasa, one of Ireland’s premiere Celtic bands, returns to the Miners Foundry Cultural Center on Saturday, March 29, to present its unique brand of contemporary and traditional Irish music. Hailed as “The Hottest Irish Acoustic band on the Planet” by The Irish Voice, Lúnasa has sold over 250,000 albums, performed over 2,500 shows across 36 countries, and has become one of the most influential bands in the history of Irish music.
Named for an ancient Celtic harvest festival in honor of the Irish god Lugh, patron of the arts, Lúnasa is indeed a gathering of some of the top musical talents in Ireland. Its members have helped form the backbone of some of the greatest Irish groups of the decade.

Bassist Trevor Hutchinson was a key member of The Waterboys, and later he, with guitarist Donogh Hennessy, would form the dynamic rhythm section of The Sharon Shannon Band; Ed Boyd (Flook, Michael McGoldrick Band) has recently replaced Hennessy; Fiddler Sean Smyth is an All-Ireland champion who has played with Donal Lunny’s Coolfin; Kevin Crawford, considered to be among the finest flutists in Ireland played with the acclaimed traditional group Moving Cloud; and, piper Cillian Vallely of the famous Vallely artistic clan has performed with Riverdance and recently recorded with Bruce Springsteen.
Folk Roots magazine has rightly termed them an “Irish music dream team.” They are best known for their ability to seamlessly blend traditional Irish music with elements of jazz, chamber music, and other genres. Their arrangements are described as “ever-inventive” and “impeccable,” creating a unique and captivating sound. And their live shows, are full of passion, energy, and are always a good time.
Ticket holders will also be treated to some special pre-show entertainment. Beginning at 6:30p.m., KVMR and the Foundry will host a “Celtic Session” or a traditional gathering of musicians who jam together and entertain bystanders. A handful of regional musicians from the KVMR Celtic Festival Stage will be playing in the Stone Hall prior to the concert. Ticket holders are welcome to join with their own instrument or simply enjoy more great live music!
