The future of our local arts and music venues, specifically the Miners Foundry Cultural Center, InConcert Sierra (currently under construction) and The Center for the Arts in downtown Grass Valley, will be the topic of discussion at this month’s Community Forum, to be held on Friday, April 25. This free, one hour forum will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 in the auditorium, room N-12 on the Sierra College Nevada County campus. YubaNet editor Pascale Fusshoeller will serve as moderator of this month’s event.
InConcert Sierra’s Artistic Director, Ken Hardin, Supervisor Lisa Swarthout, who also serves on the board of The Center for the Arts, and Nevada City Mayor Gary Petersen, representing Nevada City which just recently took over management of the Foundry, will be heading the panel.
“With the construction underway for the new InConcert Sierra and its current fundraising efforts by members and its Board, I think the community would be interested in understanding how our county will be able to support three arts venues,” said Terry McAteer, Community Forum Steering Committee member. “I think Pascale (YubaNet editor) will also be asking the panel about audiences returning to the arts post-pandemic as well as three separate arts venues competing for local dollars in tough economic times,” McAteer said.
Sponsored by the Sierra College Foundation’s Nevada County campus, the Community Forum hosts an hour-long, in-depth speaker series several times a year, discussing local issues and topics of interest to both our community and neighboring counties.
The May 9th Community Forum will feature Julie Thornbury, Executive Director of the Nevada County Food Bank, and Phil Alonso, Executive Director of there Interfaith Food Ministries of Nevada County. The topic of the discussion will focus on food insecurity in Nevada County along with the impacts of Federal cuts in food assistance.
Each of these Forums series is free, open to the public and free parking is provided at Sierra College. To view past videos online of any of the Community Forum speakers, go to www.sierracollege.edu/ncc.
