NEVADA CITY— Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park will be hosting the 57th annual Humbug Day, on June 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This annual “hometown homecoming” celebration brings North Bloomfield’s history to life, with volunteers in period costume interpreting the buildings and cultural heritage of the gold rush semi-ghost town that was first called Humbug.

Festivities include live entertainment, historical kid’s games, demonstrations of blacksmithing and antique engines, lace making demonstrations, and the hydraulic water cannon shooting a stream of water down the street! Try your hand at gold panning, candle dipping, tin punching, and other activities for visitors of all ages. Paul Emery and Eli Rush, Jackie Galloway, the Nevada County Tommyknocker Cloggers and others will be performing throughout the day.

Entertainers and visitors in 1800s costumes are invited to participate in the “World’s Shortest Parade”! A link to register for the parade can be found at www.parks.ca.gov/MalakoffDiggins.
Enjoy barbecue from E Clampus Vitus Chapter 10 and Coco’s Ice Cream in the shaded picnic area, or belly up to the bar in the saloon for a root beer float and ragtime piano. Please note that food purchases are cash-only.

This annual event is organized in cooperation with the Sierra Gold Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports educational and interpretive programs for the three California State Parks in Western Nevada County.
Entrance fee is $10/vehicle (cash only). Be aware there is very little cell reception, and no Wi-Fi or nearby ATM so please plan accordingly.
