Truckee, CA – The Town of Truckee is proud to celebrate the second annual Truckee Bike Month this June, continuing its commitment to active transportation, community connection, and environmental sustainability. In recognition of the value of bicycling to the region’s quality of life and health, Mayor Jan Zabriskie officially proclaimed June as “Truckee Bike Month” at the May 27th Town Council meeting. The proclamation was presented to Truckee Dirt Union, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that advocates for the creation of an intentionally built and sustainable mountain bike trail network through community engagement, youth education, stewardship, and volunteerism.

While the League of American Bicyclists recognizes May nationally as Bike Month, the Truckee/Tahoe region observes Bike Month in June to avoid late-season inclement weather. For the past 20 years, regional partners such as the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition have collaborated on a month of programming that promotes bicycling for recreation, commuting, and reducing car trips.
Truckee’s bicycle infrastructure, comprising miles of trails, bike lanes, and bike routes, offers year-round access for residents and visitors alike. By encouraging cycling as a mode of travel, the Town aims to reduce pollution, minimize congestion, limit roadway wear, and foster stronger community connections.
Truckee Bike Month includes a variety of community events and challenges designed to engage residents of all ages and skill levels:

- Bike Month Bingo Challenge: Participants can complete a bingo card filled with bike-related activities, including exploring a new trail, parking at the bike valet, testing a BCycle pedal-assist e-bike, and riding around Donner Lake. A completed bingo earns a prize and a raffle entry while finishing the entire card earns a special prize and an additional entry.
- Bike Kitchen and Trivia Night: On June 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., community members can bring their bikes to Alibi Ale Works and learn maintenance skills from Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition mechanics. Immediately following, participants can join a themed trivia night focused on bicycle knowledge.
- Free Bike Valet Services: Provided by the Truckee Trails Foundation, bike valet services will be available throughout the summer at major community events, including Truckee Day, the Truckee Roundhouse Maker Show, Music in the Park, Truckee Thursdays, and the 4th of July Parade.
- Tahoe Bike Challenge: Teams of coworkers, families, and friends are encouraged to track their rides and compete for points throughout the month as part of the long-standing challenge hosted by the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition.
- Bike to School Day – June 6, 2025: Families and students are encouraged to bike to school to celebrate healthy habits and safe cycling practices.
- Bike Everywhere Day – June 18, 2025: Residents are invited to take the pledge to ride their bikes for all trips around town. Refuel stations will be available at two locations:
- Eagle Plaza at the corner of Donner Pass Road and Spring Street from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Bike Truckee near the Regional Park (10015 Palisades Drive, Suite A4) from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Participants will receive free water refills, air for their tires, and swag bags with discounts and items from local shops. All participants in Bike Everywhere Day will be entered into a raffle.
Safety remains a top priority throughout the celebration. The Town reminds all riders that the speed limit for any device, including e-bikes, on paved trails in Truckee is 15 MPH. Riders are encouraged to be aware of trail conditions, crossings, and fellow users, and to observe proper trail etiquette.
Truckee Bike Month is made possible by the generous support of BCycle, Coffeebar, RMU, Truckee Trails Foundation, Start Haus, Visit Truckee Tahoe, Bike Truckee, Dark Horse Coffee, Stealth Tahoe Electric Recreation and Alibi Ale Works.
