Opening Day of the 2025 Nevada County Fair “Gold Pans & Cattle Brands” started with the traditional breakfast and recognitions of those who make the Fair possible. The nine full-time employees, joined by some 220 temporary staffers that provide the services needed to make the Fair the best experience possible for all.
Fairgrounds CEO Andrew Trygg also remembered two long-time members of the Fair family and choked up talking about George Woods, the proverbial Jack of all Trades, and Kelly Hawkeswood LaTorraca. Deputy Manager Katie Bielen thanked the Fairgrounds Foundation for their help with much-needed improvement, like replacing the faux cobblestone near the livestock barns with smooth asphalt, transforming it into ‘Beef Road.’

The opening ceremony signaled the beginning of the five-day event and stands, food booths, music and daily activities were all set up and ready to welcome fairgoers.

Then, there’s Treat Street. Food, drink and catching up with people one might only see at the fair.

The animal exhibits and the Family Farm are not to be missed. 4-H, FFA kids and their families completed final preparations while Master Gardeners, the Ag Bureau, Natural Resources Conservation District, Sierra Harvest and others put the finishing touches on their exhibits. Also on the Family Farm, some familiar faces from the NJUHSD Ranch, including the piglets!

Who knew a 1947 John Deere tractor had a beat rhythm? The Gold Country Flywheelers exhibit at the Nevada County Fair and this is what we heard.
The Ag Mechanics exhibit showcases more of the youth’s talents.

We’ll be back at the Fair today, see you there!
