Grass Valley, CA — At approximately 10:45 a.m. this morning, Grass Valley Fire units were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 300 Block of Hubbard Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions in the living room of the residence.
During initial operations, it was confirmed that one occupant and a dog remained inside the structure. The first-arriving Grass Valley engine company conducted a rapid search, located both, and safely assisted them outside. The same crew then transitioned to fire attack, quickly knocking down flames in the living room and preventing extension to other areas of the home.
The ability of a single company to perform simultaneous rescue and suppression operations highlights the value of increased staffing levels, which allow for effective, multi-faceted response during critical incidents.

The fire was declared under control within minutes of arrival. No firefighter injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Grass Valley Fire Department would like to extend its appreciation to Cal Fire and Nevada County Consolidated Fire District for their assistance on this incident. Their support contributed to the safe and efficient outcome.
Editor’s note: Per a social media post by Grass Valley Fire: The cause of this mornings residential structure fire has been determined to be a malfunctioning wall heater. Please remember to have heating appliances inspected and maintained as more cooler weather approaches.
