After the holidays are over, where does the tree go?

There are several ways to recycle holiday trees in Nevada County. This service is available for real trees only (no artificial trees). Trees must be undecorated with no tinsel, lights or flocking.
Tree Recycling Options in Western Nevada County
WM (Waste Management) provides the following options:
- WM curbside customers can cut the tree to fit comfortably inside the organics cart
- Utilize one of the free drop-off sites (Dec. 26 โ Feb. 6, 2026):
- Nevada County Government Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City (Cement Hill entrance)
- McCourtney Road Transfer Station, 14741 Wolf Mountain Road, Grass Valley
- Condon Park, 660 Minnie St., Grass Valley
- Pioneer Park, 425 Nimrod St., Nevada City
- One-day community drop-offs โ Jan. 11, 2026:
- Lake Wildwood Wastewater Plant, 12622 Pleasant Valley Road, Penn Valley
- Lake of the Pines Wastewater Plant, 10803 Riata Way, Auburn
- Alta Sierra Fire Department, 11833 Tammy Way, Grass Valley
Tree Recycling Options in Eastern Nevada County Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD) provides the following option:
- Cut up the tree in 3-foot sections and place it on your curb, somewhere visible on your regular trash pickup day
