The continuing  and sometimes volatile topic of affordable housing in California and locally will be the subject of discussion at the upcoming Community Forum, Friday, January 23rd. Tyler Barrington, Director of Housing and Community Services for Nevada County and Tom Last, Executive Director with the Nevada County Contractors Association, will be the featured guest speakers.

Former District 2 Supervisor, Ed Scofield, will serve as moderator of this month’s program. This free, one-hour event will be held on the Sierra College Nevada County campus from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 in the auditorium, room N-12.

“We’ve been hearing a lot recently from California politicians about building one million new homes in the state,” says Scofield. “I’d like to hear from both guests if that’s even possible and what needs to be done to make it more affordable to buy a home locally and in California.” Scofield will also ask about the current hinderances and roadblocks that are keeping builders and contractors from building affordable homes.

“I think we have to ask the question ‘What actually is affordable housing in California,’” Scofield said.

Sponsored by the Sierra College Foundation’s Nevada County campus, the Community Forum hosts an hour-long, in-depth speaker series several times a year, discussing local issues and topics of interest to both our community and neighboring counties.

This will again be held at the Sierra College/NC Auditorium from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

Each of these speakers series is free and open to the public and affords free campus parking.
