Nevada County, CA — Dr. Timothy Reid has announced his candidacy for Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, bringing 19 years of experience in public education, including 16 years serving students, educators, and families in Nevada County, with a focus on strengthening public schools and supporting students, educators, and families across the county.
Dr. Reid has worked across multiple levels of the education system as a classroom teacher, college professor, school administrator, and district administrator. Through these roles, he has worked closely with teachers, school leaders, families, and community partners to support effective school systems and strong learning environments for students and staff. He has also served as a leader within the Association of California School Administrators, reflecting his commitment to professional collaboration and ethical educational leadership.
A central focus of Dr. Reid’s work and candidacy is rural education. He believes students in Nevada County’s rural communities deserve the same academic opportunities and access to job-ready skills as students anywhere, and that strong rural schools should prepare students to be competitive academically and successful in careers, regardless of geography.
In addition to his professional work in education, Dr. Reid has a strong record of local community service. He serves as the Board Chair of Sierra Academy of Expeditionary Learning, has served on multiple nonprofit boards, and is currently appointed to the 17th District Agricultural Association, which operates the Nevada County Fairgrounds. His service reflects a long-standing commitment to civic engagement and collaboration throughout Nevada County.
“I’m excited to run for Nevada County Superintendent of Schools,” Dr. Reid said. “This is a role that truly excites me. I care deeply about giving back to our community and supporting local students and school staff across Nevada County. I have great respect for the work Scott Lay and the other superintendents have done over many years, and I see this as an opportunity to bring my experience, skills, and collaborative approach to benefit Nevada County’s schools.”
“This campaign is about service and collaboration,” Dr. Reid added. “I respect everyone in this race and am focused on supporting Nevada County’s schools and communities.”
The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools election will be held in June 2026.
