Grass Valley, Calif. March 2, 2026 – Grass Valley Fire Department responded to a commercial fire at Mark’s Cycle Store, 144 Idaho Maryland Road, during the early morning hours of Friday, February 27.
The fire was reported to 911 by a CAL FIRE Prevention Officer who happened to be driving through the area and noticed an audible alarm sounding along with the smell of smoke. Fire crews were dispatched immediately and arrived on scene within minutes.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered multiple obstacles that delayed access to the building. Crews worked efficiently to gain entry and locate the source of the fire while protecting the structure and its contents.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a single motorcycle inside the shop. This quick and aggressive response prevented the fire from spreading to the remainder of the business, saving dozens of motorcycles, specialized tools, parts, and equipment—representing hundreds of thousands of dollars in inventory. Additionally, firefighters prevented fire extension to neighboring businesses, avoiding significant additional property loss and business interruption.

“Protecting local businesses means protecting jobs, livelihoods, and the economic stability of our community. This incident is a strong example of how a rapid firefighter response combined with efficient fireground operations make a real difference” said Mark Buttron, Grass Valley Fire Chief.
The Grass Valley Fire Department would like to thank Nevada County Consolidated Fire District and CAL FIRE for their additional response and assistance during this incident.
No injuries were reported.
