The Nevada City Film Festival proudly presents Movies Under the Pines (MUTP) — an unforgettable outdoor cinema experience for the entire family at the scenic Pioneer Park bandshell in Nevada City.

This year, enjoy the laugh out loud, family friendly comedy School of Rock (2003) on the largest outdoor screen in Nevada County — a towering 32 feet of pure cinematic magic!

Before the film begins, come early and soak in the summer vibes with:

  • Lawn games including Croquet, Cornhole, and more.
  • Community Record Sale & Air Guitar Contest
  • Wear your favorite band shirt and be entered to win a free pass to the 26th Annual Nevada City Film Festival

Get ready to turn it up to eleven, because School of Rock is the ultimate feel-good film the whole family has been waiting for! Jack Black delivers an absolutely electric, laugh-out-loud performance as the hilariously over-the-top Dewey Finn — a wannabe rock god who accidentally becomes the best (and most unqualified) substitute teacher in history.

Directed by the masterful Richard Linklater, this instant classic perfectly blends side-splitting comedy with an irresistible love letter to the golden age of hard rock that will have parents grinning ear-to-ear with nostalgia while their kids discover the power of the guitar solo for the very first time.

“Watching a film under the stars, surrounded by friends, family, and community, is one of the quintessential summer experiences in Nevada County,” says Jesse Locks, Executive Director of the Nevada City Film Festival. “Every year we aim to make it special for kids and adults, and this year we promise it will be rocking!”

Now in its 12th year, Movies Under the Pines transforms Pioneer Park into a state-of-the-art outdoor movie theater. Bring your blankets and low-back chairs and settle in for a truly special summer evening. Movies Under the Pines is proudly supported by the City of Nevada City.

Beer, wine, popcorn, soft drinks, and water will be available for purchase. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome; outside alcohol is not permitted.

This event also marks the kick-off to the 26th Annual Nevada City Film Festival, happening June 26-28. The award-winning festival brings together filmmakers and movie lovers from around the world for three days of screenings, Q&As, kids programming, workshops, parties, and more.
