NEVADA CITY, Calif. – This morning, Sheriff Shannan Moon led the second annual Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony at the Nevada County Government Center.

The NCSO Honor Guard presented the colors, Evelyn Piper sang the national anthem and Sheriff Moon read the names of the 12 California peace officers who died in 2025 and a peace officer whose end of watch was March 2008.

Representatives from other law enforcement agencies, County staff and Supervisors Swarthout and Hoek attended the ceremony.

All 13 fallen peace officers were added to the California Peace Officersโ€™ Memorial Monument earlier this month in Sacramento.
