Nevada City, Calif.– Community members who are fostering children or are interested in doing so are invited to attend the “Raise Them Up!” Discovery Fair & Appreciation Dinner Friday, May 29.

“Raise Them Up!” Fair May 29 Offers Support, Resources and Appreciation for Foster Families

The free, family-friendly event is scheduled 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the future site of the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, 848 Gold Flat Road, Nevada City. Dinner will be served 5-6:30 p.m. with a “Wild Things” wildlife show scheduled at 6 p.m.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate youth and families who are or have been involved with foster care, adoption, guardianship or kincare. There are 45 resource families (foster families) approved throughout Nevada County and many more who are approved through foster family agencies.

Many of these agencies will be attending to share information about how the community can support children and families.

Lori Hansen, a Nevada County social worker helping organize the event, said she hopes more people will be inspired to foster children.

“There is a need for resource families in Nevada County, particularly for older children and teens,” she said.

Sponsors of the event include Nevada County, Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, EA Family Services, Stanford Sierra Youth & Families and Child Advocates of Nevada County.
