Have you been impacted by wildfire, smoke, extreme heat, drought, power outages or severe winter storms? Nevada County is seeking input on its Resource Resiliency Roadmap, a long-term plan to help communities prepare for increasingly frequent extreme weather.
Supervisor Hardy Bullock, who has championed the project, said, “Our goal is to have a plan that reflects the wants and needs of our community. Heavy snow, power outages and wildfires have increasingly impacted our residents and businesses over the past several years. We want to know what’s a priority for our residents and what type of support they’d like to see from us.”
The draft Roadmap builds on 18 months of community engagement through workshops and surveys, technical analysis and collaboration with local partners to reflect Nevada County’s unique needs and priorities.
The Roadmap focuses on building partnerships to implement projects and initiatives that make us more resilient to climate-change driven events. It also helps Nevada County and our partners compete for future state and federal funding, including grant funding from the climate bond approved by California voters in November 2024.
Future projects could include:
- helping homeowners improve energy efficiency and prepare for outages
- establishing community resilience hubs during extreme weather
- strengthening watersheds and water systems
- expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure
Public feedback will guide future investments, programs and policies to help Nevada County better prepare for wildfires, smoke, heat, winter storms, flooding, extreme cold and drought.
Comments on the draft plan will be incorporated before the roadmap is finalized and presented to the Board of Supervisors this fall.
