GRASS VALLEY, Calif. – The Rotary Club of Grass Valley South invites the community to its 2nd Annual Poker Run on Saturday, September 26th. This event offers participants a scenic 60-mile journey through western Nevada County, with proceeds from the fundraiser supporting local youth programs and families, scholarships, literacy initiatives, nonprofit organizations, and community service projects.

Poker Run

Open to motorcycles and all street-legal vehicles, riders or drivers will stop at several local businesses to draw one playing card in hopes of building the best five-card poker hand. The participant with the “Best Hand” will win the $500 cash prize.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at The Red Frog, with the first participants departing at 11:00 a.m. The route includes stops at Uncle Sonny’s, Cascade Shores General Store, Peterson’s Corner, and finishing at Western Gateway Park by 2:30 p.m. Registration is $40 per person, and participants may purchase additional poker hands for $10 each to increase their chances of taking home the $500 prize.

The final stop at Western Gateway Park offers a meal (included with registration), music, door prizes (gift cards donated by numerous local businesses) and Lazy Dog Ice Cream.

“The Poker Run is about more than the ride,” said Lauren Engelking, President of the Rotary Club of Grass Valley South. “It’s an opportunity to get together and support the businesses that have partnered with us, and raise funds that go directly back into and support our community. Whether you’re riding a motorcycle or driving, everyone is welcome.”

2025 Poker Run

One memorable moment from last year’s inaugural Poker Run captured the spirit of the event. Larry Seelig, who held the winning poker hand and received the $500 Best Hand prize, generously donated his winnings back to the Rotary Club of Grass Valley South.

Funds raised from the event help the club continue its mission of serving western Nevada County through local scholarships, youth programs, literacy initiatives, nonprofit partnerships, assistance for families in need, and numerous community projects held throughout the year.

The Rotary Club of Grass Valley south extends its appreciation to The Red Frog, Uncle Sonny’s, Cascade Shores General Store, and Peterson’s Corner for enthusiastically welcoming participants and serving as official Poker Run stops. Their support helps create a fun and memorable experience for everyone involved.

Businesses and community members are also encouraged to become event sponsors. Sponsorship opportunities help increase the event’s impact while providing businesses with meaningful community exposure.
