NEVADA CITY, CA โ€” The City of Nevada City invites community members to participate in the second Community Workshop for the 2027โ€“2035 Housing Element Update on Thursday, September 10, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Miners Foundry Cultural Center, 325 Spring Street.

Nevada City Housing Element Community Workshop #2 flyer: Thursday, September 10, 2026, 6:00-7:30pm at Miners Foundry Cultural Center, 325 Spring St. Workshop seeks input on vacant sites for multifamily development and how housing needs vary across the city. The interactive workshop will focus on two key components of the Housing Element Update: identifying potential sites for future multifamily housing and understanding fair housing needs and conditions throughout Nevada City. Participants will have opportunities to work in small groups, share local knowledge, and provide input that will directly inform the Cityโ€™s Sites Inventory and Fair Housing Assessment.

During the first portion of the workshop, participants will learn about the Cityโ€™s Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) and the process for identifying sites with the potential to accommodate future housing. Nevada City is required to identify sufficient land to accommodate its assigned housing need at a range of income levels, including 211 lower-income housing units. Because the City does not currently have enough appropriately zoned sites to meet State requirements, the Housing Element will need to identify potential sites for rezoning.

Through an interactive mapping exercise, participants will consider where different types of housing could be appropriate.

The second portion of the workshop will focus on fair housing. Participants will discuss housing affordability, accessibility, neighborhood conditions, access to resources, and other housing needs in different areas of Nevada City. Community input will supplement data being analyzed as part of the Cityโ€™s Fair Housing Assessment and help identify areas that may face particular housing challenges or have additional needs.

Fair Housing Survey Now Open

The City has also launched an online Fair Housing Survey to gather additional community input on housing needs, affordability, access, and conditions throughout Nevada City. The survey is available now and will remain open for three weeks, through September 20.

Community members are encouraged to take the survey, whether or not they are able to attend the September 10 workshop. Survey responses will help inform the Cityโ€™s Fair Housing Assessment and the development of the Housing Element Update.

This will be the final community workshop of the current eight-year Housing Element update cycle; however, there will be other ongoing opportunities for input through the update process.
