The Center for the Arts is celebrating the 31st Annual Open Studios Tour. This beloved Western Nevada County tradition invites the public behind the scenes and into the creative spaces of local artists.
Taking place October 10–11 and 17–18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the free, self-guided tour features more than 90 participating artists and creative spaces throughout Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley and Alta Sierra. Visitors can meet artists in their studios, see work in progress, watch demonstrations, learn about different creative processes, and purchase original artwork directly from the artists who made it.
This year’s tour includes a wide range of creative disciplines, from painting, sculpture and photography to ceramics, woodworking, jewelry, fiber arts, illustration and design, as well as galleries, collectives and other arts facilities.
Open Studios Preview Exhibition
Get a head start on planning your Open Studios adventure at the Open Studios Preview Exhibition, on display at The Center for the Arts’ Granucci Gallery from October 2 – 30. The exhibition features one work from each participating artist or group, offering visitors a chance to preview the incredible range of work represented on this year’s tour.
The community is invited to celebrate the exhibition and officially kick off the 2026 Open Studios Tour at a free Opening Reception on Thursday, October 8, from 5–7 p.m. at the Granucci Gallery. Guests can meet participating artists, see the exhibition and get ready to explore local studios over the following two weekends.
The Open Studios website includes an interactive map, artist directory and downloadable tour guide, making it easy to create a personalized route through the community. Printed guides will also be available at locations throughout Western Nevada County and at local farmers markets beginning in September.
Whether you’re an art collector, longtime supporter of the arts or simply curious about the creative people living and working in our community, Open Studios offers a chance to explore, connect and discover something new.
