Grass Valley, CA — The Midterm Elections are coming up on November 3, and Nevada County has some important decisions to make about our leadership. The general public is invited to get nonpartisan information about the candidates and the issues at the Nevada County League of Women Voters’ candidate forums.

The candidate forums provide an opportunity for the public to hear directly from candidates who are seeking election. The League of Women Voters solicits questions from the community and moderates the forum in a fair and balanced manner that keeps the focus on the issues.

We welcome and encourage questions for candidates. Please email questions no later than five days before each forum to questions@lwvnevadacounty.org. Note the particular office in the subject line, i.e.: Grass Valley City Council

Questions must be appropriate for all candidates to answer. Keep your questions short and to the point. The League will review and edit questions as needed to ensure they are nonpartisan, clear, concise, and appropriate for all candidates.You can submit more than one question.

All forums will be held at 6 p.m. at the Rood Center, 950 Maidu Ave, Nevada City on the following dates:

Tuesday, Sept. 22 Nevada Joint Union High School District (questions due 9/17) Thursday, Sept. 24 Grass Valley City Council (questions due 9/19)
Thursday, Oct. 1 Grass Valley School District (questions due 9/26)

At this time, no forums are scheduled for the following elections:

  • Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Divisions 1 and 2: Only one candidate in each division responded and agreed to participate. Division 1: Terry McAteer agreed; Jesse White did not respond to the invitation. Division 2: James Smith agreed; Chris Bierwagen did not respond to the invitation. Due to League rules, LWV is unable to hold a candidate forum with just one candidate.
  • State Assembly District 1: Heather Hadwick accepted, Dianna James was unable to schedule.
  • U.S. Congressional District 3: Candidates Ami Bera and Robb Tucker both agreed to participate but there was a scheduling conflict.
