NEVADA CITY, CA — Sierra Streams Institute is bringing back its popular science pop up series, Sci Pub, this fall at Gold Vibe Kombuchary. Join us as we dig into a variety of science topics including: underwater archaeology, bat conservation, and the science of fermentation. Sci Pubs are held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm-7pm. We encourage you to arrive early to grab a pint and a seat before we get started.

Sci Pubs are where folks learn about different science topics while enjoying a nice cold beverage. Regional scientists give a 45 minute presentation about their area of expertise and the audience gets an opportunity to ask their burning science questions to get an in depth look into a wide variety of subjects. Previous Sci Pub topics include: wolves in California, Sierra Nevada rock art, community advocacy of the Bear River, and fire ecology (to name a few!).

Our first fall Sci Pub will be held on September 29th and led by Sierra Stream’s own Sam Bell who will dive deep into her work as an underwater archaeologist.  She will talk about the trials and tribulations of collecting scientific data underwater and her work helping to develop an underwater maritime heritage trail from the Battle of Saipan. Sam will talk about her research on four aircraft wrecks, how these wreck sites changed over time and why in the world there would be a Korean monument left at a Japanese aircraft wreck site.

Sci Pubs are free to the public and open to curious minds of all ages with the goal of connecting our community with our love for science.
