Numerous counties in California received letters from the U.S. Department of Justice today. The letters allegedly contain names of voters the DOJ claims are non-citizens and have been mailed a ballot for the upcoming November midterm election in the respective county.
According to the SF Chronicle, officials in four California counties confirmed to the Chronicle that they received a letter.
We contacted the Nevada County Elections Office and they send the following statement:
On Friday, Oct. 23, the Nevada County Elections Office received a hand-delivered demand letter from the U.S. Department of Justice. Nevada County was one of numerous counties that received the letter. The Elections Office is reviewing it in consultation with county counsel and the California Secretary of Stateโs Office.
The letters allegedly demand elections offices confirm the citizenship of residents whose names are on the list within 48 hours and demands their ballots be sequestered immediately or the Elections Office could face an unspecified legal action.
This comes on the heels of a similar demand by the DOJ to the Secretary of State four days ago, limited to Los Angeles County. The Secretary of State’s response to that action is here.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.
