The Baker Fire is an ongoing wildfire incident North of Bullards Bar Reservoir within the Tahoe National Forest’s Direct Protection Area. Over the last 24 hour period, firefighting personal and heavy equipment have fully encircled the Baker Fire with containment line. The Baker Fire has transitioned from a type III to a type IV incident. The majority of firefighting resources will be released today at approximately 8:00 p.m., reflected in the table above. Over the next 24 hours, remaining firefighters will continue to manage the Baker Fire using suppression tactics and will continue mopping up within existing containment lines.

TNF update: The Baker Fire is an ongoing wildfire incident North of Bullards Bar Reservoir within the Tahoe National Forest’s Direct Protection Area. Working through the night, firefighting personal and heavy equipment continued to encircle the Baker Fire with containment line. Accurate mapping now totals the Baker Fire’s footprint at 42 acres. Yesterday’s spot fire has been completely contained. Today, responding firefighters will continue to manage the Baker Fire using suppression tactics and will continue constructing containment lines utilizing personnel and heavy equipment.

The Baker Fire is under jurisdiction of the U.S. Forest Service. Additional responding agencies include CAL FIRE and the Camptonville and Pike Volunteer Fire Departments.

The Baker Fire originated as the result of an escaped debris burn on adjacent private property. While the debris burn took place under allowed conditions, the Tahoe National Forest urges local residents and private property owners to use caution when prepping for and engaging in debris or pile burning. An unseasonable dry February has resulted in fuel conditions and increased fire risk uncharacteristic of this time of year.

The Baker Fire is now 30% contained. Dozer operations are done for the night, 30-500 ft of handline needed to complete the hoselay. Firefighters will continue to work through the night.

TNF update: The Baker Fire is currently burning North of Bullards Bar Reservoir within the Tahoe National Forest. Fire behavior has moderated within the last hour. Current estimates calculate the Baker Fire to encompass 30 total acres. Responding firefighters are managing the Baker Fire using suppression tactics and are constructing containment line utilizing personnel and heavy equipment. Responding firefighters will continue to implement suppression tactics and/or monitor the incident throughout the night and into tomorrow as needed.

Firefighters are picking up small hot spots and continue to build line. Dozers are making their way up to the ridgeline. No significant additional growth is expected.

IC estimates the fire at 30 acres and now 5% contained. There are still areas of concern on the backside of the hill. Resources are making good progress on line construction in very steep terrain with extremely dense brush and timber.

The fire is now estimated at 30 acres, mostly interior burning. Rate of spread has slowed, firefighters are making good progress. Bucket work by the helicopters has taken the heat out of the hot spot. Resources will be committed overnight.

Air Attack confirms the fire at 20-30 acres with one spot fire. The spot fire will be the priority for the helicopters.

Lead Plane 55 is over the fire now, helicopter 404 is inbound to Grass Valley for fuel. The fire has reached the top of the ridge – fire behavior has somewhat moderated.

Firefighters will use the existing rads to establish anchor points for containment lines. The very dense brush will make for slow going. A second dozer is en route to the fire.

Air Attack en route from Redding to the fire, now reported as  25-30 acres. Firefighters and the helicopters are focusing on the 3-5 acre spot fire. The fire started as an escaped debris burn on private property.

Current estimates calculate the Baker Fire to encompass 20 acres with an additional 3-4 acre spot fire. The Baker Fire is under jurisdiction of the U.S. Forest Service. Additional responding agencies include CAL FIRE and the Camptonville and Pike Volunteer Fire Departments.

The cause of the Baker Fire is still under investigation.

The fire is located in the Barker Ranch area, one structure threatened. Additional resources are arriving on scene. Tahoe National Forest reports BC-32 BC-71 DIV-3 DIV-6 E-331 E-333 E-61 E-72 WT-31 on scene at this time.
