Hot, dry weather continues today and will likely cause some unburned pockets of fuel to flare up. When this happens, smoke may be visible in the fire interior. Firefighters will continue mopping up, investigating smoke, and extinguishing isolated heat sources. Hazardous trees will also be removed to improve public and crew safety.ย
September 26, 2024 at 10:02 AM
Planned Actions:
Mitigate hazard trees along roadways to provide safety for firefighters and the public.
Repair direct and indirect control lines and other repair points to meet the level identified in the Suppression Repair Plan.
Tactically patrol, mop up and mitigate all smoke and heat sources to the depth necessary to produce a low probability of escape.
September 24, 2024 at 8:50 AM
Yesterday, additional gains were made in containment as crews completed securing direct and indirect control lines. Today, firefighters will continue mop-up efforts across the fire and strengthen both primary and secondary containment lines. Removal of hazardous trees will also continue, especially in Wrightwood, Grassy Hollow, and near Big Pines Highway. With the increased heat and drier weather, smoke may be visible within interior areas of the fire; crews will investigate the smoke reports and extinguish any isolated heat sources. Work on the southern flank in the Sunset Peak area will focus on further securing fire lines, while crews on the west side of the fire will be completing direct and indirect fire control lines in the Shoemaker Road area, securing the fire edge.
September 22, 2024 at 10:19 AM
Warmer and drier weather caused increased smoldering and visibility. Crews were able to eliminate isolated heat sources near the line. In the next 24 hours and through next week, warm and dry conditions will return to the fire area. Heavy dead and downed trees will continue to smolder. Rolling debris has potential to ignite fuel or cause injury.
Current weather observations include good humidity recovery over the fire footprint. Weather forecasts are showing a strong warming and drying trend starting today through next week. Weather will be more favorable for fire growth in the coming week.
September 21, 2024 at 9:19 AM
Today, firefighters will continue mop-up efforts across the fire, securing containment lines, extinguishing isolated heat sources, and felling hazardous trees to improve public and crew safety. Crews on the west flank will focus on constructing indirect line from Rattlesnake Peak north and Mount Baden Powell south โ tying in containment lines at Mount Hawkins. On the south flank, aircraft dropping fire retardant will work with ground crews on the remaining open portion of containment line to get that area buttoned up.
Members of the public returning to fire-impacted areas in and around Wrightwood are asked to return any fire equipment found on their properties to San Bernardino County Fire Station 14 at 5980 Elm St., Wrightwood, Calif., 92397. Please do not take items to Wrightwood Elementary School.
Los Angeles and San Bernadino Counties are working together to provide assistance to residents affected by the recent Bridge and Line Fires. The purpose of the LAC is to provide a one-stop center where individuals, family members, and business owners may obtain information on services and assistance needed because of a disaster or damage to personal property.
September 19, 2024 at 10:37 AM
Today, firefighters continued strengthening containment lines and validating their progress, while also attacking the most active northwest and southeast flanks with ground and air resources.
On the northwest flank, firefighters brought the fireโs edge down to tie into road systems today, helping secure containment where rollout of burning material posed a threat to the line. Favorable weather conditions are still allowing firefighters to go direct along the fires edge to prevent further spread toward the Mile High and Paradise Springs communities.
Falling modules and other firefighting personnel are working on the northeast side of the fire, and throughout the Big Pines and Wrightwood communities falling hazardous trees, mopping up, and patrolling both areas.
On the northeast flank, crews are holding containment lines south of Wright Mountain, preventing the fire from progressing into the drainages north of Lytle Creek.
Thanks to the great work of firefighters, public safety personnel and utility companies, an evacuation order was downgraded to a Warning from Icehouse Canyon up to Manker Flats and the Mt. Baldy Ski Resort. Firefighters will still maintain a presence in this area to patrol, monitor, and mop-up.
On the south and west flanks, crews continue holding containment lines and validating that hotspots have been extinguished. Hotshot crews inserted by helicopter earlier this week continue constructing indirect line in the rugged terrain of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness to create secondary containment lines.

CURRENT SITUATION: Although windy conditions hampered night flying aircraft last night, firefighters were successful in their direct and indirect line construction, increasing containment by two percent.
The northwest flank of the fire continues to be the most active and is the priority for todayโs operations. Despite the overnight erratic cold winds with gusts up to 30 mile per hour, crews were able to tie together two dozer lines with hand line. Firefighters focused on direct attack along the fireโs edge to protect the communities of Big Pines, Piรฑon Hills, and other communities to the northwest. While the fire continues backing down towards Big Pines Road, crews successfully held it in check last night. Today, crews will work to reinforce and mop up containment lines and fall hazard trees.
To the northeast, firefighters continue directly engaging along the fires edge with mop-up operations to secure containment lines. They are also working hard to strengthen containment lines on the west side of the North Fork of Lytle Creek by prioritizing dozer lines and direct attack wherever possible to stop fire spread.
The fire’s east flank is less active; however, it still presents a risk to the Mt. Baldy area, and evacuations remain in effect. Structure defense groups will remain in place to mitigate any isolated heat and continue the progress made by the previous operational shifts. Along Mt. Blady Road, crews continue mopping up and feel confident the fireline is secure and have added black line on the map.
The south flank is holding, and firefighters have secured containment lines along the direct edge of the fire. There is still some isolated heat around Sunset Peak that crews will be seeking out to extinguish today. Heavy equipment, along with hand-crews, will continue constructing secondary containment lines in the area.
On the west flank, in the Sheep Mountain Wilderness’s rugged and steep terrain, firefighting efforts successfully held the fire from advancing near Rattlesnake Peak by constructing dozer and hand lines. Today, firefighters will continue constructing containment lines to Ross Peak and Pidgeon Ridge.

Last night, firefighters continued establishing and strengthening direct containment lines while constructing secondary contingency lines with dozers and hand crews throughout the fire area. Helicopters could not fly last night due to the smoke inversion layer hampering visibility. Despite this, firefighters gained 4% containment on the fire’s southern flank.
Along Highway 2 and other roads in Wrightwood, a significant amount of fallen trees present a hazard and firefighters must take the time to fall and remove them. The northwest flank of the fire has been active and the highest priority, where fire is backing down to Big Pines Road and infrastructure near Forest Service campgrounds. Firefighters plan to continue securing containment lines while working to clear hazards to protect the communities of Wrightwood, Piรฑon Hills, and beyond.
To the northeast, the fire has reached drainages on the west side of the North Fork of Lytle Creek, however firefighters are prioritizing dozer lines and direct attack wherever possible to stop the fireโs spread.
The east side of the fire is less active, however still presenting risks to residents in the Mt. Baldy area so evacuation orders remain in effect. Structure defense groups will remain in place throughout the day and night to mitigate any isolated heat and continue the progress made by the previous operating shift, gaining depth in their mop-up operations within the community and along Mt Baldy Road.
On the south side, firefighters are holding their containment line as fire behavior is moderating in this area. To the west in the rugged and steep terrain of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness, firefighters will continue constructing dozer and hand lines where gains can be made, while aircraft assists them with extinguishing hotspots, especially near Rattlesnake Peak.

Public Meeting today, September 14, 2024
Serrano High School Performing Arts Center 9292 Sheep Creek Rd, Phelan, CA
6:00 p.m. It will also be live streamed via the Angeles NF Facebook page.
Friday night, firefighters continued making great progress mopping up established containment lines, especially in the priority areas to the north in Wrightwood and to the southeast in Mt. Baldy Village. In all areas of the fire, firefighters are identifying and strengthening secondary contingency lines. Damage inspection teams will also continue their assessments in affected areas today.
Although a one-acre spot fire got established across a drainage in the Mt. Baldy area yesterday, a hotshot crew was successful in containing it and will complete line around it today.
The most active area of the fire was on the north flank in the Blue Ridge area where fire is backing down toward campgrounds. However, in the Wrightwood area firefighters continue to make good progress with direct attack and structure protection as fire has moderated in that area.
The east side of the fire was less active, and on the west/southwest side firefighters are constructing dozer line on the edge of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness boundary from Rattlesnake Peak.

WEATHER:
Humidity recoveries aided firefighters last night especially in the Icehouse Canyon and Wrightwood areas. This will be the last day of favorable wind patterns, as the incoming cold front will switch from the southwest to the northeast on Sunday, testing containment lines on this fire.
September 13, 2024 at 10:37 AM
Due to excellent work by firefighters and moderating weather, containment has now been confirmed at 3% in the southwestern flank on the Bridge Fire with minimal growth in acreage.
The north flank of the fire is the number one priority in halting acreage growth, as well as continuing structure protection in Piรฑon Hills, Wrightwood, and Mount Baldy Village. On the northeast flank, the top priority is to keep the fire out of Lytle Creek. With a total of 15 helicopters assigned to this incident including four from the National Guard, aviation crews plan to focus on dropping water and fire retardant heavily in the northwest flank where the fire is currently the most active.
With the extremely steep terrain and lower humidities remaining in the higher elevations, firefighters will prioritize direct attack tactics to stop the rollout of burning vegetation causing spot fires below. Aircraft will be concentrating on dropping water and fire retardant on the northwest flank. Due to the rugged and steep terrain on the western flank of the fire, aircraft will continue monitoring for any heat signatures where ground crews cannot be inserted.
With the help of the marine layer increasing humidity in the lower elevations and favorable onshore winds, firefighters are making great progress in strengthening both primary and secondary containment lines in the southeast, south, and southwest flanks of the fire, while also gaining depth in their mop up operations.

WEATHER:
Coastal marine influence and favorable onshore winds will aid firefighters in direct attack as fire backs downhill for most of the west half of the fireโs perimeter. However, at the higher elevations humidity will still be low and the desert areas will not have much humidity recovery. Overall, air masses are becoming more stable which will moderate fire behavior. PUBLIC MEETING ON SATURDAY, SEPT. 14
The Incident Management Team is in the process of setting up a public meeting on Saturday, Sept. 14, starting at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be live streamed. The goal is to have an in-person location for the meeting, if possible, hopefully in/near the Phelan area.
September 12, 2024 at 6:51 AM
Yesterday the Bridge Fire was still active, however, the behavior moderated significantly due to the slight increase in humidity and decrease in temperatures. Firefighters were able to make great progress on the ground aided by aircraft to attack the fire aggressively 24-hours per day. Crews continued to be engaged with structure defense in the communities of Wrightwood, Piรฑon Hills, and Mount Baldy. The ability for crews to also extinguish new fire starts in the vicinity of the Bridge Fire is also a good sign and testament to their success and hard work.
The north side of the fire remained the most active. However, more favorable weather conditions aided firefighters in gaining the upper hand on holding the fire on the south side of Highway 2. Top priorities for firefighters remained in structure protection and defense of the communities nearby with dozer line construction and pre-treating containment lines with fire retardant.
On the east side, firefighters were able to directly engage as the fire behaved favorably, backing and flanking slowly down to Mount Baldy Road. Firefighters continue to hold the fire on the west side of this road and continue structure protection efforts in the communities of Mount Baldy Village, including the Icehouse Canyon area.
To the south, firefighters were successful in reinforcing containment lines and scouted to reopen old dozer lines for contingency planning. Front-country communities currently under an evacuation warning will see dozers and fire personnel working on the south flank of the fire to construct these contingency lines and protect the communities below it. A five-acre spot fire near Sunset Peak was also successfully suppressed with direct attack.
On the west side of the fire, containment lines are holding and firefighters are engaged in mop up, checking the area for hotspots and extinguishing them. There is minimal growth and moderated fire behavior in this area.
September 11, 2024 at 7:36 AM
Yesterday, the Bridge Fire exhibited extreme fire behavior and spread north and northeast, towards the communities of Wrightwood and Pinon Hills. New evacuation orders were issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriffโs Department starting at approximately 4:57 p.m. for these communities. CAL FIRE โ San Bernardino/Inyo/Mono Unit entered into Unified Command this afternoon.

Structural protection and defense groups have been placed in the communities of Wrightwood and Mount Baldy, with more of these resources on order. Top priorities for suppression efforts remain on the north and east sides of the fire to protect communities and critical communication and power infrastructure. At this time, we cannot confirm damage to structures. Once it is safe for damage assessment teams to evaluate, information will be released.
