Canyon, Orange County Fire Department. Transfer of command from Cal Fire IMT 1 (Estes) back to the local unit occurred yesterday. Five miles southwest of Corona, CA. Brush and tall grass. Minimal fire behavior. Structures threatened.

Fire activity continues to be minimal. Crews are working to complete construction and reinforce control lines. Residents should be aware that smoke within the burn area may still be seen from local highways and communities. This will likely continue until the next rain event occurs.

Fire investigation is ongoing will be handled by Anaheim Fire and Rescue. The incident has been turned over to local authorities as repair work commences. Updates on repair work will be available from individual agencies. This will be the last update for the Canyon Fire.

All evacuation orders have been lifted. All roads have been reopened to visitors and residents. Please avoid recreational use of Skyline Truck Trail until Saturday afternoon as heavy equipment and fire personnel are still in the area.

GPS mapping has projected acreage at 2,662 and 85% containment. Full containment is expected by Sunday. There are currently 925 personnel assigned, with 1 helicopter, 11 water tenders, 66 engines, and 20 hand crews. Crews continue to backhaul trash and hose, mop up, and extinguish hot spots. Expect heavy machinery and fire trucks in the area as cleanup continues.

Fire investigation is ongoing will be handled by Anaheim Fire and Rescue. The incident remains in unified command with OCFA, CAL FIRE, and US Forest Service. Type 1 CAL FIRE Team 6 will be transitioning out on Saturday morning, September 30 at 7am and returning management to local units. Irvine Regional Park will reopen for community use on Monday. The perimeter of the fire has not grown, better mapping accounts for the increased acreage.

4 residential structures, 1 commercial use structure, and 1 other minor structure were damaged.

Please avoid recreational use of Skyline Drive due to heavy equipment working in the area throughout the weekend.

All evacuation orders have been lifted with the intention to allow residents to re-enter their homes. Residents must show ID to enter. Green River Road is now completely open, however, eastbound Route 91 Green River Rd off ramp remains closed. The community is reminded to drive slowly as heavy equipment and fire personnel are still in the area. Firefighters continue to defend homes and build containment lines in steep, heavily vegetated area. Fire activity has slowed due to the aggressive ground and aerial firefighting efforts and favorable weather conditions.

All roads north of Green River Road and West Foothill Parkway are now open to residents with a valid ID. Access must be made using Serfas Club Drive and Paseo Grande. Areas south of Green River and Foothill parkway, including Skyline Parkway remain under evacuation order.

Gusty northeast winds are expected in the afternoon and will continue to shift throughout the day. Direct and indirect line construction continues around the perimeter. Control objectives are to keep the fire east of the Hwy 241, south of the 91, west of Green River and Foothill, and north of Eagle Truck Trail.

As of this evening, the fire has burned 2,000 acres, with 15% containment. There are 1,652 firefighters battling the fire from the air and ground. The mandatory evacuation orders are still in place for the Dominguez Ranch neighborhood. Good progress continues to be made on all flanks of the fire.

Riverside County: All roads south of Green River Road from State Route 91 to W. Foothill Parkway, including the Skyline Drive area. Green River Road is open to residents only. Orange County: Eastbound State Route 91 (#5 lane) from Coal Canyon Rd. To Green River Road, including the Green River Road off ramp. Orange County: Northbound Black Star Canyon @ Silverado Canyon Drive and southbound Coal Canyon Road @ Gypsum Canyon Road.

Mandatory Evacuations: All areas south of Green River Road from State Route 91 to W. Foothill Parkway, including the Skyline Drive area.

The Canyon Fire was reported on September 25 at 1:02pm five miles southwest of Corona along highway 91 in Coal Canyon. Steep and rugged terrain, critically dry fuels and high heat enabled the rapid spread of fire which grew to 2,000 acres overnight. It remains at 5% containment with 900 personnel currently assigned and more expected to arrive today.

Mandatory evacuations have been put into effect for Dominguez Ranch, approximately 500 homes. Evacuation center is located at Corona High School.

Santa Ana conditions will slowly weaken through Wednesday. Gusty northeast winds will continue during the morning hours, with southwest sea breezes arriving in the afternoon. Direct and indirect line construction continues around the perimeter. Orange County Type 3 Incident Management team has transitioned to CAL FIRE Team 6, a Type 1 Incident Management Team, as of 11:30PST today. The incident is now in Unified Command with OCFA, CAL FIRE, Anaheim Fire, Corona Fire, and USFS.

This morning the fire is still actively burning at 2500+ acres with 350+ Firefighters on the incident. We are experiencing flare ups this morning.

Aircraft will be in operation as soon as sun rise. More resources are being called in, no major threats at this time to structures in Orange County.
