Control lines continue to be strengthened and improved. Firefighters are concentrating on fire suppression repair and are assisting returning homeowners. Damage Inspection Teams continue to survey the fire area to determine how many structures have been damaged or destroyed. Current data indicates that the fire has destroyed 299 structures; including 189 single-family homes, 8 commercial structures, and 102 other structures such as sheds and smaller outbuildings. As surveys are completed and additional data is confirmed, the number of structures damaged or destroyed may change.

The Mandatory Evacuation Order for the community of Lower Lake is to be lifted immediately. To support the safe and orderly return of residents to their properties, the following road closures have been revised:
•The road closure at Main Street, east of the Highway 29 and Highway 53 junction will be removed.
•The road closure at Lake Street, south of Dam Road will be removed.
•The road closure at Jesse Street, east of Highway 53 will be removed.
•The road closure at Morgan Valley Road at Butte Rock Ranch Road will be removed.
Please drive slowly as emergency personnel continue to operate in the area.

Damage Inspection Teams continue to survey the fire area to determine how many structures have been damaged or destroyed. Current data indicates that the fire has destroyed 300 structures; including 190 single-family homes, 8 commercial structures, and 102 other structures such as sheds and smaller outbuildings. As surveys are completed and additional data is confirmed, the number of structures damaged or destroyed may rise.

Overnight firefighters continued to mop up and secure more of the fires perimeter. Damage Inspection Teams continue to survey the fire area to determine how many structures have been damaged or destroyed. Current data indicates that the fire has destroyed 268 structures; including 200 single-family homes, 21 mixed use residential structures, 13 commercial structures, 10 multifamily dwellings, and 72 other structures such as sheds and smaller outbuildings. As surveys are completed and additional data is confirmed, the number of structures damaged or destroyed may rise.

As of 4:00 PM – August 17 – The following areas will be open to traffic: Areas accessed from Spruce Grove Road, east of Hwy 29 including all of Clayton Creek Road.
As of 3 PM – August 16 – Neighborhoods east of State Highway 53 from Polk Avenue south to Cache Creek. This includes the area of Clearlake referred to as “The Avenues.”

St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, located on 18th Avenue in the City of Clearlake, will resume patient care services at the hospital, Wednesday, August 17 at 7am following evacuation orders due to the Clayton Creek Fire.
St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake was cleared to resume service by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) on August 16, 2016 after a full survey of the hospital facility and all operations. The hospital did not sustain any damage and will be fully staffed to provide patient care in all areas, including the emergency department.
Four of St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake’s primary care clinics opened as scheduled beginning Monday, August 15, to provide care to the community, including Clayton Fire evacuees. Additional outpatient services, including physical therapy and cardiopulmonary care, also welcomed patients. The Konocti Wellness Center located on the campus of Lower Lake High School remains closed.
St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake is located at 15630 18th Avenue in Clearlake. Patients may reach the hospital by calling (707) 994-6486.

Today at 3PM, the mandatory evacuation order was lifted for the neighborhoods east of State Highway 53 from Polk Avenue, south to Cache Creek. This included the area of Clearlake referred to as “The Avenues”. The cancellation of additional evacuation orders are being evaluated based on a variety of factors including potential fire behavior and re-establishment of critical infrastructure.

Lake County Sheriff announces arrest of suspect believed responsible for ARSON related to #claytonfire. 40-year old Damin Pashilk was arrested and charged with 17 counts of arson, including the Clayton Fire.
CAL FIRE law enforcement officers, in cooperation with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake County District Attorney’s office, arrested a Clearlake man on suspicion of 17 counts of arson in connection with numerous fires in Lake County over the past year. Damin Anthony Pashilk, 40, was booked into the Lake County Jail for arson on Monday, August 15, 2016. While suspected of arson in many fires in Lake County, Pashilk is also implicated in the Clayton Fire, which has burned over 4,000 acres and destroyed more than 175 structures. The arson charges Pashilk faces in the Clayton Fire will also carry enhancements due to the destruction of homes and businesses. State and Local law enforcement officers work diligently in arson cases to aggressively investigate and prosecute those suspected of intentionally starting fires. More.

For the safety of students, teachers and staff, the Konocti Unified School District schools will be closed for the week of August 15 through August 19 due to the close proximity of the Clayton Fire.
The schools affected by closure include Burns Valley Elementary, East Lake Elementary, Lower Lake Elementary, Pomo Elementary, Lower Lake High School, Lewis Center, Blue Heron School, Carlé High School, Highlands Academy, Konocti Education Center and Clearlake Creativity School.
A plan for the continuance of school operations for the following week will be released on or by Friday, August 19.

Information Concerning Donations
Per Lake County CA Sheriff’s Department: North Coast Opportunities, Inc. (NCO) is re-activating the fire relief fund created during 2015’s devastating Lake County wildfires, and is already working with local organizations to react as quickly as possible to the Clayton fire.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized the use of federal funds to assist the State of California to combat the Clayton Fire burning in Lake County.

The fire continued to burn aggressively through the night. The communities impacted were Lower Lake and Clearlake. Additional resources arrived throughout the night. The fire behavior remains intense. Structures are threatened and currently mandatory evacuations are in place. Structure defense continues. Terrain is grassy oak woodland, heavy brush with difficult access.
The Damage Assessment Team has arrived and will begin the process of documenting destroyed and damaged structures. The data from the Damage Assessment Team will be provided to the Lake County Assessor’s Office once completed.
